Our Granny's Remedies...

I guess many of you must have heard about the wonderful remedies of the good "old" times, especially when these come from the grandmother's mouth!

Some of these remedies have often proved to be lifesaving.

Viral infections of winter often do not heal with antibiotics. On the contrary, some of the "granny's" remedies that have passed from generation to generation, have better results since they are able to soothe the symptoms of the flu!

The secret recipes of the past gave rise to the creation of several modern drugs as the pharmacology experts stress.

Let us recall some miraculous remedies, alphabetically:

Anxiety (stress): If before an exam or some other kind of stressful event you can not relax and sleep, you should look at the soothing and hypnotic properties of the fresh basil. Put 25gr. of fresh basil leaves in half liter of cold water and let it boil over low heat, with the lid closed for 10 minutes. Once this beverage cools down, drink 3-4 cups throughout the day and when bedtime comes, you can easily fall asleep. If the nervousness and anxiety is very intense, you can start this treatment several days before the stress time begins.

Aristotle's Lagoon - Lesvos island Greece

This is a video i'd like to share. I am sure there are a lot more but this is a good start to start with...

A few thoughts regarding the blog

Dear friends,

I was born on the island of Lesvos, the motherland of Theophrastus. For those who may not know it, Theophrastus was born in Eresos in Lesbos. He was the successor to Aristotle in the Peripatetic school. The interests of Theophrastus were wide ranging, extending from biology and physics to ethics and metaphysics. His two surviving botanical works, Enquiry into Plants[2] and On the Causes of Plants, were an important influence on medieval science. He is also known as the "father of botanology" a fact that make me really proud for the place I was born and live in.

When memories come to the past, to the times we were rushing to the fields every May 1st, I remember the green color of the grass and the fab smell of the oregano, thym, rosemary...

It took me a while to realize that not every garden has a bitter orange tree or a lemon tree...

Today, I know... After traveling a bit all over the globe, I decided to put together a few words for the herbs and plants of my home playground and share my experience with anyone interested...
